Safety Medical

HUImage Safety & Medical

All staff at Hunter Outdoor Training take safety very seriously. Arguably we are more 'immersed' in safety studies, procedures, and research than any other comparable organisation. We have our roots in safety research, two of the team being former EVC's for large comprehensive schools. One former teacher on the Team has built the safety management system for a major educational tour company.  The Team boss is undertaking doctoral research into educational visits safety, part of this involves running the UK's only Educational Visits Accident Register, documenting every reportable youth-group, uniformed organisation, school visit accident, death, and injury since 1970. We were amongst the first organisations in the UK to formulate risk assessments in the 1980s, and advised the then Department for Education on their procedures.

Barry Howard has written on safety for The Times Educational Supplement, The Geographical Association, The Royal Geographical Society, and The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and broadcast on BBC radio on a dozen occasions.

In 2002, our Director of Hunter Outdoor Training, spent three months and travelled solo 10,000 kms. researching safety amongst Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish outdoor centres, teachers, mountaineers, outdoorsmen,  and government agencies, returning to the UK with 'good practice' which was ultimately the subject of a Report to the government Select Committee on Education.

We now run workshops and courses on first and emergency aid and visits safety for teachers and youth leaders on the basis of our virtually unparalleled experience. You can be in no better hands than Hunter staff, learning or refreshing your knowledge base on safety for your young people or for your staff/organisation's training.
